Chris Knudson is a songwriter, composer, musician, bandleader, producer, and engineer having lived and worked in Texas, New York City, Los Angeles, Berlin, Germany, and currently Portland, Oregon. He primarily produces, records and releases music on Lightstone Records under the Kanude and previously Val Holler monikers. His song "Wheels" was used in HBO's True Blood and he got his professional start as a co-composer of Robert Rodriguez' breakout film "El Mariachi" in teh early 1990s.

"The earliest music I remember listening to was the music of the late 60s and early 70s, from my dad's reel-to-reel tape deck: The Beatles, Peter, Paul and Mary, The Byrds and other folk and rock acts from the era. There are photographs of me at age 3 or 4 with these big white over-the-ear headphones plugged in to my dad's stereo system. I moved forward and backward musically from there."
